I am, in order of priority, a Christian, a wife, a mother, a musician and a businessperson. I have a plethora of practical experience in many fields; from serving in the USAF, which taught me the value of chain-of-command and prior planning; to owning successful businesses, to managing people, construction, and my current business, renovating homes to rent. We have renovated 4 marginal homes in Deer Park in the last 5 years. I care deeply about our small city and have “put my money (and my hammer) where my mouth is.”
In the Voter Pamphlet, under Prior Political Experience , I answered "Absolutely none. I may be overqualified" ; This was meant first and foremost, to elicit smiles. But there are some other thought processes behind my statement.
Instead of recounting council meetings I've attended, or offices served in clubs, I chose instead to embrace my lack of political experience in a humorous way. I believe that what we currently need is less politics, and more practicality.
Many people don't realize that the mayor doesn't even have a vote on the city council. Here in Deer Park, the mayor's job is to encourage, facilitate, and administration; areas that fit my experience-acquired skill set.
And finally, I was humorously separating myself from those politicians on the "bigger stages", who seem to care more about their power and prestige than they do about their community and those they purportedly "represent". At our level, everyone who runs for office does so only because they love the community. I am called to serve; it would be my honor to do so.
